Transportation and Parking in and around Nazare


Uber ( and Bolt) are now available in Nazare(2025) - Note, they are not always expedient”, but getting better as more people use the service. Sometimes they can’t find the house and end up a street away. Make sure to reference “Casa Coop” on Google maps. Sometimes the drivers end up one street away.

Other Options
Local Taxi services can be found near the Mercado in downtown Nazare and run until about 11 pm - unfortunately they are not consistent.


The Ascensor (Funnicular)- One way ticket is 2.50 or buy a book of trips. The Ascensor (or Funnicular) last trip is at 11:00 pm, but during the summer and holidays it can run until 1:00 am. Check with attendant to insure time of closure.

The Stairs down to Nazaré - Steep winding stairs with beautiful Swing to view Nazaré. The stairs are lighted at night but can be difficult to maneuver if mobility is an issue.

Local Regional Busses - Will run hourly from Sitio to Nazaré, but stop and enter point is at the Nazare Bus Station.

Sitio da Nazaré Parking - Do not park up in Sitio da Nazaré, there is limited parking and Tour busses can block a car in a spot if it is a designated Bus parking. Fines are occasionally being issued by local police for incorrect parking. It is a short walk to main part of Sitio from the house.

Nazaré Parking lot- There is a large municipal parking lot down in Nazare, reasonable rates and automated attendant. Other parking is short term and limited. Ticket fines can be expensive. Additionally there are parking lots (run by the Bomberios - firefighters) near the bus station.

Marina Parking Lot It is free and offers more spots then others but if swimming, this is a bit of walk to the safer side of the beach near the Cliff. Some side streets may have parking available but in the summer it is variable and chaotic.

Public Health Clinic - Saude in Nazare - accepts limited walk in’s if you are an EU resident. Only good for non urgent emergencies.

Pharmacy

Sitio and downtown Nazare have Pharmacies. For minor ailments they can diagnose and provide over the counter medications as needed. If you forgot a prescription, they can provide short term medications if you have access to your prescription information.

Farmácia Silvério A Nazare downtown pharmacy tends to be open late in the evening

Wells ( In the Continente store) have over the counter medications, no medications, but they have baby formula, supplements that many of the pharmacies do not stock.

Mercado Municipal da Nazaré - Fresh Fruits/Vegs, Fish and Meat market - Not open on Monday’s, parking difficult during summer.
Mercado municipal de Pataias - Open only on Sunday’s. More interesting market with Food stands, local products even live ducks/rabbits for sale.

Banks for Cash

Many restaurants and businesses do not take credit cards. It is always best to keep a dinners worth of cash in your wallet to insure you can pay. Always make sure to ask before sitting down to eat if they take credit cards.

Warning on Banks
- Use the Multibanco Banks, do not use Blue banks that say Euronet as they charge large fees to obtain cash. You can find a Multibanco in all the Grocery stores.
